Cutters had the honor of talking to Jeremiah Gutjahr, professional soccer player from Indy Eleven on November 29th.

He had so much insight into the mental side of the sport and overcoming challenges, the importance of staying curious and constantly learning. I like that he mentioned how fundamental it was to him to enjoy coming to soccer and how Cutters kept that joy alive and inspired him.

When asked about how did he always have patience as a young player with his teammates and such great sportsmanship, he said it was always important to him to try to learn more about his teammates beyond soccer so he could empathize with them and be a better teammate. It helped him to let go of things he couldn’t control.

For parents, Jeremiah recommends they support their kids and perhaps try asking what they need from them. For example, after a hard game, ask them what they need from you in that moment. Maybe they just need you to be a parent, not a coach, and figure out where to eat.

Did you know Jeremiah got his start at Cutters Soccer Club!? He also played four seasons at IU from 2015-18, starting 61 of his 71 appearances, and then played two seasons with Chicago Fire FC.

“I have such fond memories of my time at Cutters. I loved the opportunity to spend my evenings playing the game I love with great friends either at Olcott Park or Karst Farm Park,” says Jeremiah.
